How to Handle Twins while Alone

If there is any piece of advice that twin moms will give you is to accept all the help that you can. More than this, you should ask for it. But what if you leave far away from your family? What if your friends are miles away? How can you handle twins alone?

How to Handle Twins while Alone

The first thing you need to do is to take a good deep breath (or several). Now that you’re feeling calmer, it’s time to dig in.

#1: Join A Multiples Group:

Some twin moms decide to join these types of groups when they are still pregnant. In case you missed them, you can join them at any point since they can be a great help along the way.

In multiple groups, you’ll find a lot of moms who are in your current situation and others who already overcome it. You can learn more from them and even discover some moms in your area. From lending some gear to give you a hand when you need it, you have nothing to lose.

#2: Get The Right Gear To Make Your Life Easier:

While you may already have a lot of gear, some gear can be particularly useful when you need to take care of your twins alone.

We know that an extra pair of arms is just what you need. But since you can raise a new pair, you can buy some gear to replicate them. Just think of a baby carrier, a swing, or even simple infant seats that you can place next to each other. These are perfect for feeding time.

#3: Get Out Of The House Often:

Yes, it’s tough. And yes, it won’t always go well. But your babies need it and you need it as well. You already have everything you need to get the road: a double stroller, the diaper bag, and the little toys they love so much.

#4: Put Your Twins On The Same Schedule:

There’s no question that babies need well-established routines. They will be happier and you’ll be calmer. So, even before you’re left alone with your twins, you should try to put your twins on the same schedule. When you can’t do this, you won’t get a break.

No matter if you’re breastfeeding your twins or bottle-feeding, you can feed both babies at the same time.

#5: Alternate Holding And Floor Time:

As your babies start growing, they will love to be on the floor. So, you have got to take this opportunity to alternate holding and floor time when your babies are fussing. Besides, this is also a great way to practice tummy time on the floor.

#6: Don’t Forget To Take Care Of Yourself:

When you’re not well, your babies won’t be well either. But the sad truth is that taking care of twins all by yourself can really affect you, both physically and mentally.

Final Thoughts

No matter if it’s just a few minutes or an hour, it’s important to be free from diapers every once in a while. You may enjoy a nice hot bath when your twins are sleeping, go to a drive-thru to grab your favorite lunch, or wake up earlier and enjoy your cup of coffee surrounded by peace and quiet.
